The More Things Change...

...The more they stay the same.

Not.

I was just finishing up a blog post featuring my New Year's Food Resolutions (yeah, yeah, I know...it's already January 7th. So, sue me...) when I stumbled across a rumor saying that the good(?) folks in the mega-cyber world will be discontinuing Google Friend Connect. First for non-blogger.com folks then, eventually, for blogger.com folks like me.

Crap...

So...for those of my dear friends and fellow-food lovers who've signed up to follow via Google Friend Connect here to the left --> (under 'Seated Around the Table'), please take the time to follow me either by e-mail (you can see the sign up box in the above right) or via Facebook or Twitter (I think I have a button for each on this page somewhere).

For really committed friends, send me your phone number and I'll drop you a line once a month or so.

For you really die-hard followers, send me your address and I'll show up on your doorstep with a bottle of wine from time to time. Two bottles if you have dinner ready.

Sigh...I guess change is the nature of the beast with this internet/social networking/blogging thing.

But I'm thankful that some things don't change.

Like time-proven recipes and friends like you.

Now...please get up off your butt and answer the friggin' door. It's freezin' out here and this '42 Chateaux Mouton Rothschild is getting cold...  :-)

  1. Maybe you should come visit to a warmer climate .. with as many bottles as you can carry :D Man, I'm so behind time, I didn't even know what's happening. Really? You mean my glee of each time a new follower chalks up my numbers is not going to happen anymore? I agree .. crap. I still haven't figured out all that blogger can do for me and they're changing again. For non-internet savvy people like me ... double crap.

  2. You are saying, no more happy dance for me every time my followers number rises?! I hate changes, especially those that don't make any sense.. Signed up for e-mail updates!

  3. I saw this too, so what about all the blogs we follow? Moving to google reader?

  4. @ping. Too funny! Keep the porch light on, I'm on my way, lol.

And on a more serious note, it is disappointing for those of us who are internet-challenged. It will first affect non-blogspot accounts (like Wordpress folks) but those of us who use blogspot can (and should) see the writing on the wall... :-(

  5. @Crunch Creamy Sweet. It shouldn't affect people like us Anna who use blogspot...yet. But both you and I know how these things work. That's why I'm going to start encouraging folk to find me on Facebook, Twitter, and subscribe via e-mail in addition to signing up via Google Friend Connect. Thanks for signing up here via e-mail. I did for your blog as well! :-)

  6. @Gwen @ Saturdays with Maggy. Good question, Gwen! Google is suggesting that we start to incorporate Google+, especially if one is using Wordpress or another non-google blog platform (see Google's post here: http://bit.ly/y7KdFa). For those of us who use blogspot, we may want to think about doing so as well (the writing seems to be on the wall). I'm not sure if those we follow will change over automatically, but what do I know? I'm the guy who was thrilled to get a new iPad even though it turned out to be an Etch-A-Sketch, lol! 7. Thanks Warren! I will sign up to receive your email. I'm just getting started with my blog and don't have a lot of followers yet but I should let them know to do the same!

By the way- You are too far away for a drop in but if you are ever in the San Francisco Bay Area bring a bottle of wine (or two) and we will cook together!

  8. @Becky Baker. Thanks! I was following you thru Google Friends and just signed up via e-mail as well.

And I will take you up on your offer if I am ever in the bay area. I suggest a delightful roast. (And yes, I will bring two bottles...)

  9. Well, I'm glad I follow you on Facebook then! I'd hate to lose out on the chance you'll bring some wine by for dinner. :) I don't have many who follow me via google friends but it's always good to have a heads up. Thanks for being "in the know!"
